Wanted: Help?

So I have a Canon Powershot G9.
I want to buy another camera but this one is good for me atm and my wonderful grandparents bought it for me for Christmas a year ago.

I need to read up and see if I can change the shutter speed and stuff...Because I'm going to be honest I'm really retarded about the camera.

Anyone have any tips maybe?
I'm really wanting to learn. :XD:
